Most popular online bets: tips and tricks for betting on TennisTennis bets
Diversify your sports bets with forecasts in tennis matches. Know here the main markets and other aspects that you should consider.
“I like tennis because that is where the money is” – answered a Mexican betting friend when we asked him what was his favorite sport in sports betting. Here we share some basic aspects to take into account within the most popular betting markets in tennis.
Bet on Match Winner
The bet on the winner of the match is the basic market par excellence. In general, bookmakers set low odds for favorite players. For example: Roger Federer (1.30) vs. Kei Nishikori (2.70). This means you win $ 3 USD for every $ 10 USD you bet on Federer if you win the match. It is difficult to earn money with these fees. On occasion, we bet $ 2.5 USD for a total of $ 40 USD in single bets to favorite players in different tennis games available at bet365. At the end of this experiment, our funds remained at $ 41.50 USD. We kept the bankroll but we had a minimum profit, almost zero.
For this reason we suggest that if you play favorites you consider making combined bets – park, accumulator, or combo bet – rather than single bets. Remember that it is not always good to bet on the favorite and before choosing, you must know the performance of the player under the conditions of the match in question.
Bet on Tournament Winner
Due to the difficulty in predicting the winner of a tournament in advance, the odds of each player are usually higher. For example, in the odds of the first three favorites to win the Wimbledon men’s tournament are: 2.75, Novak Djokovic; 5.00, Andy Murray; 7.00 Roger Federer. In this bet it is essential to weigh the style of play of each player and their performance on the surface of the tournament: clay, cement or grass.
Bet on the Exact Result or Bet on the Set
If for any reason you trust that the favorite will win the match but its quota is low, you can bet on the “Exact Result” market. In this case, you must predict the correct score or number of sets in the match, for example: María Sharapova 2 sets to 0 against Ana Ivanovic. Take into account the physical condition in which you can find the player of your interest. Your player may be superior but for wear throughout the tournament – or the ATP / WTA season – he could win the match by a minimal difference.Bet with Games or Sets Handicap
In this type of market, bookmakers establish an advantage or disadvantage (handicap) of games or sets for each player. Betting on this market consists in predicting the winner considering said handicap.
Let’s look at an example with a handicap for games:
Andy Murray -3.5 (share 1.90) vs. Milos Raonic +3.5 (fee 2.00)
We believe that Andy Murray wins the match in 2 sets (6-4, 6-4). Add a total of 12 games won against 8 for Milos Raonic. Applying the handicap of -3.5 games, Murray accumulates a total of 12 – 3.5 = 8.5 games won. In this case, the bet on “Murray -3.5” is still winning as the Scotsman surpasses Raonic in number of games won during the match (8.5 games vs. 8 games).
Now let’s see an example with handicap to the number of sets:
Novak Djokovic -1.5 (fee 1.90) vs. Tommy Haas +1.5 (fee 2.00)
In the case of a Novak Djokovic victory in 2 sets (6-3, 7-6), the winning bet is still “Novak Djokovic -1.5” despite the -1.5 set handicap. Now, if the Serbian wins the match 2 sets to 1 (6-3.6-7.6-4), the winning bet is “Tommy Haas +1.5” thanks to the handicap of +1.5 sets (2 sets for Djokovic vs. 1 + 1.5 = 2.5 sets for Haas).
Number of sets (over / under)
The Over / Under market will be familiar if you bet on football matches. It works the same way. The bookmaker determines a line, usually 2.5 sets. The bet is to predict whether or not the match will exceed that number of sets. If you think the match will be even, “over” is the option. Or do you think that one player will sweep the other? Then bet on “under”, predicting a brief encounter.
If you bet live, there are several interesting markets such as “who will score the next point” or “if the players will reach 40 or not”. We highly recommend enjoying these markets since the level of entertainment and excitement is much higher. Bookmakers like bet365, William Hill, Sportingbet, and Unibet have excellent live tennis betting service. However, remember that it is essential to watch the game live to place live bets. In our section View live sport, you will find information about bookmakers with live image service.
Lucky Loser, an interesting phenomenon
In some ATP, WTA, Challenger or ITF tennis tournaments, you can find a curious phenomenon known as “lucky loser”. It is when a player does not qualify for a tournament but is finally accepted in the main draw by absence or attrition of another player. This is the “play” of the best ranked player after the last round of quali. It can be interesting to follow the path of these players in the tournament since you can find “value” in some markets. The players arrive at the tournament without too much tension and have nothing to lose. That’s good for you!
